Gautam Adani, Nephew Settle US Bribery-Related Case for $18 Million

Indian tycoon Gautam Adani and his nephew Sagar Adani will be paying out $18 million to settle a lawsuit filed against them by the US Securities and Exchange Commission. Filed in 2024, the case accused both men of bribing Indian officials in order to obtain energy projects and deceiving US investors regarding their anti-bribery policy. Despite the fact that the settlement comes without any admission of wrongdoing on the part of Adani and his nephew, it comes in light of reports that the Department of Justice is discontinuing its criminal investigation of the Adanis, following the latter’s meeting with a number of high-ranking government officials.
